Chickenpox

Chickenpox is caused by the varicella-zoster virus. It is contagious which can spread to other individuals if contact is made, thus, prevention is important. It takes 1 to 2 days for chickenpox symptoms to spread before the appearance of red blisters, which become flaky after 5 to 6 days.

Preventative Measures

Avoid spreading the contagious virus to other people, especially to children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with poor immunity.
Immediately stop working to minimise the potential of spreading the contagious virus.
Visit a doctor within 24 to 48 hours after first noticing the symptoms.
Do not scratch because this may lead to scarring.
Take painkillers if pain or fever is present.
Clean the blisters to prevent recurrent infections of the virus, which could cause inflammation.
Apply a natural moisturiser to sooth the skin after bathing.
Drink plenty of water.
Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes to prevent scratching.

Another effective method of prevention is to seek chickenpox immunisation through a vaccine. Vaccination is highly recommended to individuals with low immunity, children, pregnant women and the elderly.
