Preventative Measures

Utilising laser treatment is the most direct method in reducing and removing melanin pigments underneath the layer of skin. Lasers are utilised to safely diffuse the production of pigmented melanin, thus reducing and removing melasma. It is a significantly effective form of treatment to diminish the appearance of melasma and the results are long-term. Step 1 – Inhibit the activation of melanocyte skin cells.
Step 2 – Reduce the amount of tyrosinase enzyme, which produces melanin.
Step 3 – Prevent the occurrence in activity of the tyrosinase enzyme.
Step 4 – Block the transfer of melanin into the keratinocytes, which is a type of cell located in the epidermis.

BSL Clinic refuses to use hydroquinone, mercury, steroids or other hazardous substances in conducting its skin treatments. These hazardous substances cause skin redness, sensitivity, the appearance of vitiligo or exogenous ochronosis, a skin disorder consisting of dark patches. We suggest avoiding the use of cosmetics including whitening creams that contain chemical enhancements, preservatives or mercury substances. It is important to apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) and utilise other sun protection measures to protect the skin prior to participating in outdoor activities or direct exposure to the sun’s Ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Preventing the skin from further harm minimises the development of unwanted skin conditions.
